Valentine’s Day is just around the corner… I’ve never been a big fan of the holiday, but it is a good excuse to make some fun food. So, for this week’s Friday Favorites, I thought I’d highlight a few of the Valentine’s Day-friendly desserts that caught my eye this week. Of course, they’re great for…

Valentine’s Day is less than a week away… While I can’t say that I have gotten anything for my hubby yet (oops, sorry honey!), I have done some Valentine’s Day baking. So, while I may not be the person to help you with great gift ideas for that special someone (in fact, if you have…

Instead of making homemade chocolates this year, I decided to decorate some box of chocolate cookies instead… You know, those heart-shaped boxes that can only be found around Valentine’s Day. It seemed like a fun cookie design to try just for fun (and a good way to use up the rest of my Nutella cutout cookies and royal icing from my heart cookies last week).

When I think about Valentine’s Day, I immediately think of dessert. So, since Valentine’s Day is on Monday, I thought I’d take this opportunity to share a few of my favorite desserts from the past week. If you’re on a diet, I recommend that you stop reading now… These desserts are irresistible!

One week and counting until Valentine’s Day!
As you may have guessed, my favorite part about Valentine’s Day is desserts. I’ve mentioned before that my hubby and I don’t usually go all out for Valentine’s Day gifts. I’m perfectly OK with that. Valentine’s Day desserts are a different story… For me, it’s just not Valentine’s Day without a decadent dessert. I don’t need diamonds, but please don’t mess with my chocolate!

Valentine’s Day is less than two weeks away… Are you ready?
My husband and I don’t usually go all out with Valentine’s Day… It’s just not our thing. There are no diamonds or extravagant gifts (though I wouldn’t be entirely opposed to that). We usually make a point to get each other a card and (when we remember) a small gift. Instead, we usually make a special dinner together (which is rare) and make some chocolate covered strawberries.

You really can’t go wrong when you combine sweet caramel with salty cashews. The caramel corn with cashews would have been perfectly fine and delicious on its own, but I couldn’t leave well enough alone. I am a big fan of peanut butter, so I decided to throw some peanut butter into the mix, too. It couldn’t hurt, right?
The peanut butter and caramel melt together to create a creamy and rich sauce. When you combine it with the popcorn and cashews, you end up with a crunchy snack that will satisfy your salty sweet cravings.

Two years ago I decided to try something new. It was a few months after I had quit my full-time job as a database developer and systems analyst. I was working as a part-time consultant, and spending as much time as I possibly could in my kitchen. I especially loved baking and never went anywhere…

It’s Friday already, and it has been a whole week since I had my hand surgery! I am happy to announce that I am doing very well… Thank you all for your concern and well wishes! My fingers have been freed from “the claw” (the name my husband and I fondly named my giant bandage), and, though I have to be careful, I am getting back to my normal activities… Most importantly, I can now type two-handed again!
I will be getting back into the kitchen soon (I hope), which means there will be more new recipes to come next week. In the meantime, though, let’s take a look at some of the fantastic blog posts I came across this week!

As soon as I picked up a copy of the King Arthur Flour Whole Grain Baking Cookbook, I knew I had to try the Chewy Oatmeal Decorating Cookies recipe. I love to make rolled cutout cookies, but had never tried a recipe with oatmeal. So, with Valentine’s Day coming up, I decided to make some…
