Remember how I said I have been lacking cooking inspiration in the kitchen lately? It seems that my lack of inspiration has also extended itself to blogging. Do not fear… I go through these stages periodically. I find that the best way to get through it is to just push on through and keep writing. So, that’s exactly what I’m doing.
I have a funny thing about food textures. Many of the foods that I’m not too fond of are those that have a texture that I don’t like (mushy cereal, for example)… It has very little to do with the flavor. So, due to my hatred of mushy and soggy things, I have avoided egg and sausage casseroles for years. The thought of bread soaking in eggs and milk just didn’t sound appetizing to me.
A few weeks ago, though, I had some stale bread on hand and for some reason I was feeling especially brave. I decided to tackle the dreaded egg and sausage casserole since I know it is such a popular holiday dish (and I was also lacking cooking inspiration at the time). When all was said and done, it turned out to be pretty tasty. In fact, it was tasty enough that I made it again last week and even took the time to take a few pictures and keep track of the recipe.

Yesterday I promised you a savory recipe using pie dough, so here it is! We grew quite a few butternut squash in our garden this year, so I’ve been dillegently working to make puree and stock my freezer (you can puree butternut squash the same way you would puree pumpkin). The last time I made…

I’m on a mission to stop using canned beans. Most canned beans contain BPA, and I’m not too sure about that. While I’m not a scientist, I figure it’s better to avoid it as much as possible instead of taking any chances. Cooking dry beans really isn’t very difficult. Plus, it’s much cheaper to use dried…

I have to admit that I’ve been feeling like I’m in a bit of a blogging slump again lately. I seem to have lost some steam since my trip to NYC. As a result, I’m not feeling especially “wordy” as I write this week’s Friday Favorites. So, let’s get right down to business… The first order…

I’m always anxious to get back in my kitchen after traveling. I enjoy being in new places and trying new food, but after a while, I get sick of eating out and just want to make something for myself. That’s how I started to feel this weekend. Not only did I have the urge to…

I love stromboli… Especially in cold weather! I’m not sure what it is about cold weather that makes me hungry for stromboli, but ever since we had a taste of snow over the weekend, I have been wanting to make stromboli. A lot of the time when I make stromboli, I will layer ham, pepperoni,…

I have this weird thing about cold food. I don’t really like it all that much. Especially when it is cold leftovers! There is something about the smell that just turns my stomach. Something that smells absolutely delicious when hot (pizza, pasta, soup, the list goes on…) will be absolutely repulsing to me after it…

While everyone is concerned about swine flu H1N1, it seems another disease is spreading rapidly this fall. It’s spreading like wildfire from blog to blog. That’s right, I’m talking about cook’s block or food blogger’s block. Just yesterday, I was discussing this very issue on Twitter with Lucy and Kamran after reading their recent blog posts…

I wait all year for the fall. I know it sounds a bit crazy, but it’s my favorite time of the year. I love the flavors, the weather, and the fact that the holidays are right around the corner! Of all of the fall foods, I think pumpkin is my favorite. Unfortunately, my husband doesn’t…

I’m getting a late start on my Friday Favorites this week! Usually I try to pick my favorites and write my blog post on Thursday evening. I’m not a last-minute person! I was always the obnoxious kid in school who started researching a term paper the day it was assigned and had it written with a…
