From Pumpkin to Pie

2011-11-16_PumpkinPie-250px

A few weeks ago, it occurred to me that I had never made a pumpkin pie from scratch… In fact, I’m not sure I had ever really made a pumpkin pie. Pumpkin pie is a Thanksgiving staple, but usually either my mom or my grandmother makes the pumpkin pie. I’ve never really had a reason to…

Friday Favorites – Episode 113

I’ve still got Thanksgiving on the brain… Consider yourself warned! I still haven’t figured out my menu for Thanksgiving… I’ve got plenty of ideas, but haven’t made any final decisions yet. I’m just having too much fun exploring new recipe ideas! Since I know a lot of you are planning your own Thanksgiving meals, I…

Friday Favorites – Episode 109

FridayFavorites_new.jpg

Another busy week has come and gone… That just seems to be the way it goes lately. I am looking forward to a nice, relaxing weekend, though. Part of my plan for the weekend include spending some time in the kitchen. That really is one of my favorite ways to relax! And, with lots of great new…

Honey Cinnamon Peach Pie

2011-08_23_PeachPie-250px

Sometimes you just need to bake a pie. That’s what I tweeted last week when I was baking this peach pie. And, yes, I am going from talking about juicing and eating raw veggies (see this post about gazpacho if you’re not sure what I’m talking about) to talking about the therapeutic value of baking…

Individual Peanut Butter Tarts (With Love for Jennie)

Last Sunday, I was relaxing after a busy weekend, and I saw this tweet from Jennifer Perillo – He’s gone. And my heart is shattered into a million pieces. I immediately feared the worst, but I hoped I was wrong.  Perhaps I was misisng something. I didn’t want to jump to conclusions. So, I sent her…

Friday Favorites – Episode 99

FridayFavorites_new.jpg

With summer in full swing (and lots of hot and sticky days around here), my focus has been shifting a bit from rich, decadent desserts (which you see a lot of around here!) to light and refreshing dishes that don’t require a lot of effort and heat. It seems that my fellow bloggers are feeling…

Cherry Pie for Pie Day!

2011-07-05_CherryPie-250px

Happy Pie Day! No, not Pi Day… For those of us who are math geeks (and I certainly am…), we all celebrated Pi Day a few months ago on 3/14. But, I am perfectly OK with celebrating pie (or pi) a twice a year! When I read that Shauna was encouraging everyone to make and…

Friday Favorites – Episode 78

FridayFavorites_new.jpg

It’s Friday! Are you ready to celebrate? I always enjoy writing my Friday Favorites post each week… It’s a fun way for me to wrap up the week and also share some of the blog posts that are making me smile (and making me hungry!). This week is no different! With the Super Bowl and Valentines Day…

Friday Favorites – Christmas Entertaining (Episode 75)

2010-12-09_12DaysChristmas2010.jpg

If you’re much like me, you’ve probably rushed around to finish all of your shopping and get the gifts wrapped so that you have next week to focus on food. Granted, I do make a lot of homemade gifts, so I don’t have ALL of my gifts done. But, I would much rather spend the week before Christmas in my kitchen listening to Christmas music while I cook and bake. It sure beats pushing your way through the super-crowded stores looking for last minute gifts! I suppose that it’s also a good time to clean the house if you have guests coming, but we won’t talk much about that.

Since I spent last week introducing you to more cookies than you could ever possibly bake during one holiday season (that’s a challenge… I dare you!), I thought it would good to focus this week’s Friday Favorites post on holiday entertaning! After all, we can’t live on cookies alone (or can we?).

Friday Favorites – Thanksgiving Guide (Episode 73)

2010-11-19_ThanksgivingGuide.jpg

I have hosted Thanksgiving dinner at my house for the past couple years. This time around, I have the year off. Yellowdog (our yellow lab, in case you were wondering) has to remain “calm” and is not allowed to play with kids, other dogs, and relatives for the next few months until she has fully recovered from her knee surgery. So, that pretty much means that there will be no big get togethers at my house for a few months, either.

That doesn’t mean I won’t be cooking, though! I plan to make a side dish or two, and of course I’ll be taking some sort of dessert. I will also be traveling with my handy dandy meat thermometer, which I believe is the key to a perfect Thanksgiving turkey. Whether it’s my kitchen or my mom’s, there’s no better place to be on Thanksgiving day!
