Pickled Jalapeños

2011-10-05_PickledJalapenos-250px

Every year around this time I start to regret planting a jalapeño pepper plant in my garden. You see, I seem to have quite the knack for growing jalapeño peppers in my garden. In the spring, I think, “Oh, it will be so great to have fresh jalapeños from the garden!”  And, when those first…

Bacon Wrapped Guacamole Poppers

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Hass Avocado Board featuring Hass Avocados for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine. I happen to be one of those women who loves football season. This year I’m even in a fantasy football league! But, even if you’re not a football fan (and I…

Jalapeño Pepper Jam

2011-08_24-JalapenoJam-250px

In my canning fury a few weeks ago, one of the new recipes I tried was a recipe for hot pepper jam. I wasn’t entirely sure what to think… Jalapeño peppers in a sweet jam? I was skeptical. But, I had tasted a few similar recipes at the farmers market a few weeks earlier, so I figured…

Gazpacho

Last weekend, my husband and I watched the movie Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead.  How’s that for a Monday morning blog post intro? It’s relevant, though… I promise! You see, we have a few friends who have done the whole “juicing” diet thing. Some have had good results, others have ended up not feeling so…

Fresh Garden Salsa

2011-07-25_GardenSalsa-250px

I would love to say that we have lots of ripe, juicy tomatoes in our garden at the moment, but that’s not the case.  It seems that the hot, dry weather we have had lately is working against me. And, of course, the groundhog that has learned to climb the fence isn’t really helping, either….

Friday Favorites – Episode 79

FridayFavorites_new.jpg

With the Super Bowl this weekend, it only seemed appropriate that I should share some game day, snack worthy recipes as a part of this week’s Friday Favorites. Some of these are “traditional” football food, while others are not… Either way, I’m sure they’ll be a big hit at your Super Bowl party!

Sweet Potato Chili

Lately I’ve been in a bit of a cooking slump. I can think of lots of things that I’d love to bake, but since I cannot live on cake, cookies, and cupcakes alone (don’t I wish!), I’ve been forced to try to fight through my lack of inspiration and cook anyway.

When I’m feeling uninspired, I tend towards pizzas, frittatas, and soups… They are all of my “blank canvas” foods that lend themselves well to whatever’s in the fridge. I’ve found myself making a lot of them lately… Especially soups. The cooler weather that we’ve been having just begs for soup, if you ask me.

Peach Mint Salsa

Over the weekend, my mom and I went peach picking at a local orchard. There’s just something very satisfying about picking your own fruit, and it definitely couldn’t be any fresher! I managed to pick 20 pounds of peaches in no time at all, knowing that I wanted to do some canning over the weekend, and…

Harvest Grains Salad with Chili Lime Dressing

If you follow me on Twitter, you’ve probably seen me tweeting about my new running routine. It feels good to be getting back into running, but I feel like I am really hungry all of the time! My hubby and I eat a lot of salads for lunch, but a plate of greens drizzled with…

Fresh Cherry Tomato Salsa

During the summer, I love to make fresh salsa. We don’t have fresh tomatoes from our garden yet, and we’ve only had a few tomatoes from the CSA. So, I picked up a pint of organic cherry tomatoes at the store to make some salsa.  I’ve never made salsa with cherry tomatoes before, but it…
