Valentine’s Day Cookies

2011-02-13_ValentinesCookies-250px

Instead of making homemade chocolates this year, I decided to decorate some box of chocolate cookies instead… You know, those heart-shaped boxes that can only be found around Valentine’s Day. It seemed like a fun cookie design to try just for fun (and a good way to use up the rest of my Nutella cutout cookies and royal icing from my heart cookies last week).

Heart Cookies for Valentine’s Day

It’s been a while since I decorated cookies… Hand surgery has a way of messing things up like that. When I posted my Nutella Sandwich Cookies for Nutella Day on Saturday, though, I promised that the cutout cookies would work well for decorating… I keep my promises.  Plus, my hand is doing much better. I…

A very important holiday is here! No, I’m not talking about the important football game this weekend, a president’s birthday, or that sweethearts’ day where you have to buy flowers and candy. I’m talking about World Nutella Day!

You haven’t heard of it? It’s the (not so) official holiday for Nutella lovers around the world to unite and celebrate their love of Nutella! The lovely bloggers over at Ms. Adventures in Italy and Bleeding Espresso have declared that today, February 5th, 2010 is World Nutella Day. It’s exciting!

Frosting for the Cause

This week I am taking a bit of a break from the usual Friday Favorites… Sure, there have been lots of great blog posts out there this week, but I have something more important to tell you about.

If you haven’t already heard of the Frosting for the Cause project started by Paula of Vanilla Bean Baker, you really should check it out!

Friday Favorites – Episode 77

It’s Friday already, and it has been a whole week since I had my hand surgery! I am happy to announce that I am doing very well… Thank you all for your concern and well wishes! My fingers have been freed from “the claw” (the name my husband and I fondly named my giant bandage), and, though I have to be careful, I am getting back to my normal activities… Most importantly, I can now type two-handed again!

I will be getting back into the kitchen soon (I hope), which means there will be more new recipes to come next week. In the meantime, though, let’s take a look at some of the fantastic blog posts I came across this week!

Happy New Year!

2010-12-31_HappyNewYear

I just wanted to take a few minutes to wish everyone a Happy New Year! This past year has been a great year here at My Kitchen Addiction.  It’s hard to believe I’m approaching 2 full years of blogging already!  I’ve had the opportunity to travel, meet new friends, and spend lots of time in…

Gingerbread House Traditions and a Giveaway!

2010-12-23_Traditions-250px

One of the things that I love about Christmas is how each family has their own traditions that make the holiday special. Sure, there are lots of traditions that are the same – setting up a Christmas tree, exchanging gifts, and baking cookies, for example. Those traditions are great, but I really love hearing about the different traditions.

For me, some of the best traditions are the simple ones. When I was growing up, there was some time between the two Christmas Eve church services that we would attend when singing in the choir. During that time, we would always go home and drink cranberry ginger ale and eat cookies. It may seem kind of silly, but to this day, I have to have my glass of cranberry ginger ale on Christmas Eve.

Last Minute Cookie Designs (WFMW)

Christmas is just a few short days away… Can you believe it?

While I find it amusing to spend hours upon end decorating cookies, I know that not everyone shares my love of piping bags and royal icing. I’m OK with that. If you can’t be bothered with worrying about outlining and flooding cookies or mixing up a rainbow of icing colors, then this post is for you!

Yellowdog’s Christmas Guide (12 Days of Christmas 2010)

2010-12-21_YellowdogCookies-250px

You may not realize it, but Yellowdog (my yellow lab) is quite the accomplished writer.

When we were first married, we couldn’t think of anything to write in a Christmas letter to our friends and family. After hours of writing and re-writing the letter, with little to say, we ended up scrapping our version entirely. Instead, as a joke, we started writing the letter from Yellowdog’s perspective. After all, she’s part of the family, and her take on things is always more exciting than ours. We’ve been married for over 5 years now, and Yellowdog just finished writing her 6th Christmas letter!

So, today, I thought I’d let her take over and share a few of her favorite holiday tips, from the doggy perspective, of course!

Spiced Butter Rum Cookies (12 Days of Christmas 2010)

2010-12-20_ButterRumCookies-250px

I love to make a variety of cookies each year for the holidays. It’s probably no real surprise that my favorites are the ones that I get to decorate. It’s just not Christmas unless I do some cookie decorating!

I am a fan of the standard sugar cookies and gingerbread cookies, and I make them every year (including this year). But, last week I decided to spruce up my sugar cookie recipe a bit with some fun holiday flavors. I was thinking about eggnog, which naturally led to thinking about rum, which, of course, meant that I had to add some butter rum flavor to the cookies I was already in the process of mixing up. While I was at it, I threw in some spices, too.
