2011-11-10_CranberryCreamCheese-250px

Yesterday I gave you a great (and easy!) recipe for homemade cranberry sauce. So, today I thought I’d share another quick and easy holiday recipe that uses the cranberry sauce.  After all, cranberry sauce can be a pretty versatile ingredient, and you don’t see too many “leftover cranberry sauce” recipes… Sure, it’s great to have…

Friday Favorites – Episode 112

FridayFavorites_new.jpg

This has been one of the first weeks in quite a while that my hubby and I didn’t have something on the schedule every single night of the week. And, it’s been great. Because I’ve had some down time in the evenings, I’ve also been spending more time in the kitchen during the day. That’s…

Let me just tell you… When you’ve been dealing with trying to clean up a flooded basement, there aren’t many surprises better than finding a big box of chocolate on your doorstep. Especially if you love chocolate as much as I do! I was given the opportunity to try out some of the products from…

Jalapeño Pepper Jam

In my canning fury a few weeks ago, one of the new recipes I tried was a recipe for hot pepper jam. I wasn’t entirely sure what to think… Jalapeño peppers in a sweet jam? I was skeptical. But, I had tasted a few similar recipes at the farmers market a few weeks earlier, so I figured…

Last Sunday, I was relaxing after a busy weekend, and I saw this tweet from Jennifer Perillo – He’s gone. And my heart is shattered into a million pieces. I immediately feared the worst, but I hoped I was wrong.  Perhaps I was misisng something. I didn’t want to jump to conclusions. So, I sent her…

Red Velvet Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting

2011-06-01_RedVelvetCupcakes-250px

I make red velvet cake (or cupcakes) all the time… My husband absolutely loves it, so it’s a pretty frequent request around here.  So, in almost 2 1/2 years of blogging, you’re probably wondering why you’ve never seen a recipe for red velvet cake here on my site. It’s a valid question! Here’s the thing… I’m…

Coconut Cream Cheese Cookies

2011-04_28_CoconutCookies-250px

I ambitiously bought a large bag of coconut the week before Easter.  I had great plans to make Easter candy with it, but that never happened. Instead, I decided to throw together some cookies at the last minute.  I didn’t really have a good recipe, so I just made it up as I went.  I…

Friday Favorites – Episode 89

FridayFavorites_new.jpg

I’ve got quite a mix of posts in this week’s collection of favorites.  I’ve done quite a bit of blog reading this week (I admit, I had let my RSS reader get a bit out of hand!), and there were so many great posts to choose from.  My cooking and baking list for the next…

In keeping with my 12 Days of Christmas celebration, I thought it would be fun to put together a cookie guide for this week’s Friday Favorites post.  Christmas is just over two weeks away, so we’re entering into the prime cookie baking time of the year. If you’re looking for new recipes to try this…

Brown Butter Rum Cream Cheese Frosting

2010-12-02_BrownButterRumFrosting-250px

This weekend is my brother’s wedding. Those of you who follow me on Twitter or read my blog regularly may remember that I am baking their wedding cake – a small cake and lots of cupcakes, actually. As you can imagine, this week has been pretty busy for me, and the weekend will be no different!

Throughout the week I’ve been working on adding ivory ribbons to cupcake wrappers and decorating mini gum paste flowers. Now, today starts the baking frenzy. I’ve tried to keep up with blogging in the meantime, but things may be a bit slow around here for a little while next week as I do my best to get back into the swing of things.

In preparation, over the past few months, I’ve been trying lots of new cupcake and frosting recipes trying to find the perfect flavors for the wedding cake and cupcakes. So, I thought I’d share one of the frosting recipes with you today. This wasn’t a winning recipe for the wedding, but I thought it was pretty good. I used some butter rum extract from King Arthur Flour to jazz up a brown butter cream cheese frosting. It’s a great flavor combo for the holidays… If you like butter rum flavor, that is. The frosting has a definite rum flavor, which I like a lot. The frosting tends to steal the show, so it’s best paired with a simple flavored cake like a basic spice or vanilla.
