Summer is here!  Huzzah!

I’ve not always been a summer person. I don’t love hot and humid weather.

This year, though, I’m embracing it. After a busy first year of preschool and trying to keep two young kiddos on a schedule every week, I’ve been enjoying a bit more flexibility.

We’ve been playing on the playground, running in the yard, blowing bubbles, and splashing in the pool.

Of course, it’s all fun and games until dinner time. Am I right? Continue Reading

Cinnamon Rolls for a Crowd

This didn’t start with me.

I can still smell the warmth of the kitchen on a brisk December afternoon. We would arrive, bundled in our coats, stomping snow from our boots.  The layers of hats, gloves, and scarves would peel off as we climbed the stairs to say hello.

Though she was busy at work, bustling in front of the stove, scurrying to put dinner on the table, she always had time to greet the family, especially her grandchildren. After all, we were the ones she was baking for. Continue Reading

I’ve started this blog post more times than I can count.

Both kids are napping. And, while my house is in need of some serious tidying and my kitchen could stand to be cleaned, I am sitting down to write a blog post.

And, here I sit.

Lately, after a much needed and rather long break, I’ve started to feel like it’s time to start working on some blog posts again. But, it’s been a slow start. Continue Reading

Cocoa Banana Bran Muffins

Let’s just say that I’m a bit Type A.  You might even use the word perfectionist. I’ll take it as a compliment.

That’s all fine and great… And, when it comes to developing recipes, it can be a good thing.

Enter the toddler.

Too tired to walk all the way over to the couch? Why not just lie down in the middle of the floor! Don’t want that last bite of your snack? Just put it on the counter. Partially chewed. Messy hands? No problem. Wipe them on the clean kitchen towel. Or on the cabinets. Or on your shirt. Hey, you have options!

Toddlers are not Type A.

(I can say this with assurance because I have plenty of first-hand experience. Sticky hands all over my countertops… and clothes… and walls… You get the idea.) Continue Reading

Cherry Almond Coffee Cake

I’m one of those people who gets bored easily… Especially when it comes to food! I don’t enjoy eating the same thing for breakfast every day. I’m not usually too thrilled about simply reheating something and eating it again the next night for dinner.

The same goes for recipes and techniques in the kitchen. Sure, I have a handful of recipes that I will make time and time again. But, for the most part, I am often looking for something new to try.

Lately, I’ve been dabbling in the world of no knead breads.  I think my fascination with no knead breads comes not from the desire to have a quick and easy recipe (though, make no mistake… many of them are!), but from a desire to do something new. I’ve been kneading bread for as long as I can remember, so I decided it was time to give the whole no-knead thing a try. I’m glad I did! Continue Reading
