Gin and Tonic Cookies

Gin and Tonic Cookies

This past weekend was the fourth annual Big Summer Potluck. I’ve attended all four years, and, with the exception of last year, I’ve decorated cookies each year to take for the potluck. Since the gin and tonic has been the unofficial drink of the get together, I decided to use that as my inspiration for this year’s cookies.

Since I’m not much of a gin drinker, I had to do a little bit of research before getting started on the cookies.  After a brief discussion (on Twitter, of course) with two of the best gin drinkers I know (I’m looking at you, Chris and Brian), I decided to use the Bombay Sapphire bottle on the cookies. After all, how could I resist that lovely shade of blue? When it comes to cookies, a pretty bottle is just as important as a good tasting gin. Let’s be honest.

I didn’t want to just do cookies with gin and tonic bottles on them, though… I was also determined to do a cookie with the cocktail on it, as well. While I was looking through images of cocktails, I stumbled across these cute gin and tonic cookies (I’m not the first to make gin and tonic cookies… Go figure!).  I ended up using the cookies as inspiration and a starting point for my cookies. I generally don’t like to use food coloring markers on my cookies (just a personal preference), so I decided to pipe the design instead. I didn’t just want an outline, though, so I ended up doing some painting to shade and add some extra color to the cookies.

In the end, I was pretty pleased with how the cookies turned out. They were a lot of fun to decorate.  Though, I do tend to get carried away when I start painting. And, can I tell you how good it felt to have a piping bag in my hands? I need to do more decorating!

Oh, and how was the Big Summer Potluck? I had a great time! Maddie went along with me to meet the foodie blogger family (after all, it is basically like a big family reunion for me), and she had a blast. Because I had my hands full trying to keep her occupied and happy, I didn’t take as many pictures as I have other years. You can find the ones I did take over on Flickr!

When I read the title of your post, I seriously said out loud “no way!!” These are so cool looking, and my friends and I happen to be big fans of gin and tonic, so these would be perfect for a get together. So creative!

  5. These are adorable Jen and I can’t deny especially because you used one of my favorites; I love Bombay Sapphire gin. Sometimes I wonder if it’s because it is such a pretty bottle!

Maddie is just too cute; just like her mama. :)
