Super Bowl Cookies

Super Bowl Cookies

Are you ready for the Super Bowl? I always get excited to watch the Super Bowl, but as a Baltimore Ravens fan, I am especially excited to watch the big game this year.  So, naturally, I decided to decorate some cookies for the occasion.

I contemplated making some Ravens cookies, but I did that a few years ago.  Plus, decorating cookies while toting a baby around isn’t quite as easy as I had hoped, so I had to go with a simpler design.

Since not everyone out there is a Ravens fan (I suppose we can still be friends), I decided to make some neutral cookies that would be a hit at any Super Bowl party – Lombardi trophy cookies. Even if you’re not really a big football fan, I think we can all agree that it’s fun to watch the game and snack on some cookies, right? And, how impressed would your football loving fans be if you took the time to make some Lombardi trophy cookies? These cookies will score you some serious brownie points.

You’re probably thinking, “But, I don’t have a Lombardi trophy cookie cutter.” Neither do I. Instead, I took two of the cookie cutters from my football cookie cutter set (it’s a pretty popular and common one that you can find at craft stores) and put them together to make the Lombardi trophy.

There’s still plenty of time to bake up some cookies of your own for the big game… I’ve included step-by-step photos of the whole process to help you along the way.

Start with a football cookie cutter and a pennant cookie. The pennant cookie will serve as the base of the trophy.  Simply turn the pennant on its side so that it is standing upward.  Then, cut off the bottom (the ribbons end of the pennant) and cut off the top on a diagonal. Place the football shape on top of the pennant to form the trophy.  Then, bake the cookies.

You’ll only need two colors of icing for the cookies.  The trophy is made of solid sterling silver, so you need a silver color icing for the trophy.  For my silver icing, I used a drop of Americolor Super Black food coloring gel, and a drop of Americolor Sky Blue food coloring gel. Then, if you’d like to write the Super Bowl number on the cookies, you’ll want a contrasting color for that. I picked Ravens purple (for obvious reasons).

Use a round #2 pastry tip to outline the cookies in the shape of the trophy.  Then, let the outline dry for a little while.

Once the outline has dried, fill in the cookie with silver flood icing.  Then, let the cookie dry for at least 2 hours before using the #2 tip to pipe lacing on the top of the football.

Let the cookies dry overnight to be sure that they are completely dry.  Then, to give the trophy a bit of sparkle, mix luster dust (I used a mixture of both silver and gold) mixed with just a few drops of vodka.  Use a paint brush to paint the mixture onto the cookies.

Allow the cookies to dry once more before piping the Super Bowl numbers onto the cookies.  I used a #2 tip for the lettering, as well.

  6. Every time you do cookies like this, it makes me equal parts amazed and terrified. I simply don’t have the coordination to pull these off, so it plainly amazes me whenever you do them – and with Maddie onboard too! They’re really special.
