Kitchen Bootcamp Roundup – Yeast Breads

Kitchen Bootcamp Roundup – Yeast Breads

For this Kitchen Bootcamp challenge, I asked everyone to spend some time in the kitchen getting familiar with yeast breads… Many of you know that I love to bake, and baking with yeast is pretty high up there on my list.  While a new baby has kept me from doing as much baking for this challenge as I had hoped, I am glad to see that the challenge inspired many others to take on some new recipes and even try baking with yeast for the first time!

For this month’s challenge, I worked on two new recipes.  I am really loving this recipe for Buttermilk Sandwich Bread… I think it may replace my usual sandwich bread recipe from now on.  I also made some Pumpkin Sticky Buns. What could be better for a fall breakfast treat?

Pumpkin is one of my favorite fall flavors… And, I especially love it when it is paired with cranberries and nuts.  It just tastes like Thanksgiving to me. I will be trying this Cranberry Walnut Pumpkin Loaf from eat. live. travel. write. very soon… It may just make it on my Thanksgiving menu this year, as well!

Bagels are one of the few yeast breads I have never made in my kitchen. I have been meaning to give them a try, but I didn’t get around to them this time. These Spinach, Sundried Tomato and Cheese Bagels from Bites by Brandi look fabulous, though, and I’m feeling inspired to get in the kitchen and bake some bagels!

Cinnamon rolls are one of my favorites when it comes to baking with yeast.  So, you can imagine that I am looking forward to trying these Sweet Potato Cinnamon Rolls from My Adventures in the Country.

I didn’t have as much time as I had hoped to bake for this challenge…  Fortunately, you’ll find four great recipes over at Roxanna’s Home Baking.  She’s got some great recipes for fall like Whole Wheat Pumpkin Challah and Pull Apart Nutella Filled Pumpkin Bread.  I think you’ll also enjoy this Plum Cake (yes, baked with yeast!) as well as these lovely Cottage Cheese Whole Wheat Dinner Rolls!

One of the reasons I host the Kitchen Bootcamp challenge each month is to encourage everyone (myself included!) to try new things in the kitchen. So, I especially love this post – My First (and I’m a 30 year old foodie) Successful Yeast Bread from Yum or Dumb. This looks like a great recipe for anyone who is new to baking with yeast!

When I think of Chocolate Babka, I am reminded of one Zabar’s in New York City.  I don’t get there nearly enough. After seeing this Chocolate Babka from Chocolate, Chocolate, and More, I am feeling inspired to make some of my own.  Hopefully it will hold me over and satisfy my cravings until the next time I can make the trip up to the Upper West Side.

I have yet to try making pull apart bread… I’m not sure why! It seems like a fun food, especially for entertaining.  I am going to have to whip up a batch of this Pumpkin Pull Apart Loaf from Sweet Twist of Blogging very soon.

Oh my goodness! Look at all of that deliciousness! So many recipes to try!

  2. So glad you decided to do this challenge. Yeast is avoided so often in baking because people are just afraid to get in there and try it. Yes, I’ve had some horrible experiences (I just can’t be bothered to babysit a sourdough starter for 7 days) but the joy and sense of accomplishment of becoming friends with yeast is so rewarding.
I’ve found a few new recipes here I need to try out including the buttermilk sandwich bread and the bagels! I’ve never made bagels, but always wanted to!

What a lovely collection of yeast breads! The buttermilk sandwich bread looks awesome and I can see why you’d want to make it your regular sandwich bread!

The pumpkin sticky buns taste fantastic! My whole family couldn’t eat them fast enough :) i ended up putting about 5 1/2 cups of flour for the dough but my house is pretty humid i guess. Delicious recipe it’s for sure going into my recipe box!
