Friday Favorites – Episode 140

Friday Favorites – Episode 140

It’s been a few weeks since I had a chance to write a Friday Favorites post… Life has been pretty busy around here, and I’m afraid that my RSS reader tends to be the first thing to be neglected.  This week, however, I’ve had some extra time to do some blog reading.  The hubby and I have been taking shifts keeping an eye on the doggy as she recovers from her surgery, so I’ve been neglecting housework instead of my RSS reader.  In the end, it will all get done.  But, for now, I’m just thinking about all of the fabulous recipes I want to try as soon as I have some time to spend in the kitchen! Here are just a few of them…

  • We don’t really drink a lot of beer at my house, but I do try to keep some on hand for baking and cooking.  I know it is going to come in handy for these Cheddar Beer Drop Biscuits from Evil Shenanigans.  I have a feeling they are going to become a new favorite, especially when cooler weather returns!
  • It seems that I cannot use the tomatoes from our garden fast enough this summer… Every day we are picking another handful of giant heirloom tomatoes.  So, I’ve been on the lookout for new tomato recipes, and these Almond Roasted Heirloom Tomatoes from Family Fresh Cooking caught my eye this week. I can’t wait to give them a try!
  • While we’re talking about veggies that I have an overabundance of, I should also mention that we’ve picked about 20 pounds of zucchini from our garden in the past week. Next spring, please remind of this fact and tell me that planting three zucchini plants may be overkill. For now, I’m going to make a batch (or two) of these Corn and Summer Squash Cakes from Sugarcrafter!
  • We’ve started getting fresh corn from our CSA in the past few weeks.  And, it is some of the best corn we have ever had. I am hoping we get another box full of corn next week to give this recipe for Corn Chowder from Good. Food. Stories. a try. I’m thinking it would go well with some biscuits!

  1. Poor Yellow dog; hoping this will be it and your time and nurturing can be devoted to your new baby!

    Have a great weekend Jen.

Thanks for the mention, Jen! I hope you love the corn cakes. And I totally need to make Casey’s corn chowder too. Yum!
