Friday Favorites – Episode 110

Friday Favorites – Episode 110

I am really loving the fact that chilly weather is here. I’ve finally had the chance to pull out a few sweaters from my closet. I love wearing boots. And, of course, you can’t beat a nice hot latte in the afternoon.

As you might expect, I’ve really been focusing on chilly weather recipes lately. My dutch oven has been getting a lot more use and I’ve been happy to let things simmer away in the slow cooker. This time of year, more ever, I am perfectly content to just spend time in the kitchen. I love the sounds and the smells and the warmth. And, I’m looking forward to trying some new recipes!

  • I’ve been trying to experiment with new grains lately, and now I am adding quinoa flakes to my list. Take one look at this Baked Breakfast Quinoa Oatmeal from Sensitive Pantry and tell me you don’t want to dig in. I think it is the perfect breakfast to warm up a chilly fall morning.
  • Don’t you just love when you come across a recipe that just demands that you make it? That’s how I feel about this Quick Coq au Vin from Bon Appetit Hon. I am not going to be able to get it out of my head until I make it for dinner!
  • Everyone loves a warm chocolate chip cookie… Especially my husband! He gets frustrated when I make fancy cookies. I can’t wait to try these Spiced Brown Butter Toffee Chocolate Chip Cookies from Evil Shenanigans. They are the perfect compromise between fun flavors (for me!) and the always popular chocolate chip (for him!).
  • I can’t get enough pumpkin this time of year… I have a long list of pumpkin recipes that I want to try, but these Whole Grain Pumpkin Pancakes with Apple Maple Compote from Honey & Jam are moving right to the top of my list. I think they’d be pretty fabulous for a holiday brunch, too, so keep the recipe handy!

  1. Great list- need to check out the cookies and pancakes right now!

  2. Jen, I hope the quick coq au vin will stop haunting you once you make it. Thanks for including it in your roundup.
